The common software used for the global models IFS and Arpège and the LAM models Aladin, Alaro and Arome is used and developed jointly by ECMWF and by the members of the Aladin/Hirlam/Lace consortia. Integrating contributions from such a large community of developpers within this common code is a great challenge. A SURFEX training course was organized in Toulouse from 14 to 16 October 2009. Main topics are listed below : Introduction Present use of SURFEX in different applications ECOCLIMAP ISBA Ocean parametrisations Inland water, FLake TEB Surface boundary layer Chemistry and aerosol Surface assimilation 2 practical trainings were scheduled during this course : on physiography, databases and on running the offline version of surfex. The first ALADIN training course was organized in September 1997 in Toulouse by CNRM/GMAP.
