Le GMAP est un groupe de recherche du CNRM (Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques) affilié à Météo-France et au CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique).GMAP is a research group of CNRM (National Centre of Meteorological Research) affiliated to Météo-France and to CNRS (National Centre of Scientific Research).
The AROME model was declared operational on 18th Dec 2008.
The GMAP group develops numerical weather prediction (NWP) software for Météo-France. The main activity is on three NWP systems:
Besides this research and development for NWP activities, GMAP pursues some more
fundamental scientific research: on the dynamics of midlatitude storms, on atmospheric
predictability, on the use of satellite data, on data assimilation techniques, on
mathematical techniques for numerical modelling of the atmosphere, etc... For more
information on these topics, please follow the Science themes links below.
These activities are embedded in many cooperations and
collaborative .

How to join us
Like the rest of CNRM, GMAP is mostly staffed by French civil servants who are
recruited through competitive examinations:
Job openings are often directed to scientific Ph.D and graduates from engineering schools.
They are normally advertised on the official websites of
CNRS and the
Ministry of affiliation of CNRM.
Also, a limited number of job openings are directed to experienced scientists on an
irregular basis. They are advertised on the same websites, and in the relevant scientific
community.
It is possible to work at GMAP in English language, with a limited knowledge of French.
No salary is available for students at Master level (or below). Ph.D students are selected
on the basis of their marks at University (or engineering school). Other visitors will be
expected to have substantial experience in meteorology or in a related field, and fluency
in Unix and Fortran programming. Job openings depend on funding availability, and are
advertised in the relevant scientific and meteorological community. French law prevents us
from employing fixed-term staff for more than a few consecutive years.
