Microphysical processes in mid-latitude layer clouds for climate and data assimilation:
Proposal for tuning and validation experiments.

by Philippe Lopez and Alain Joly.

Summary

As part of the FASTEX-CSS Project, Météo-France will develop, validate, and tune a "simplified" cloud scheme, aiming at the operational assimilation of cloud condensate, as well as a better representation of the latter in climate simulations. Météo-France will therefore need to study the results from a series of mesoscale simulations of two FASTEX cloud systems. These experiments are to be run by at least two other project partners, and hopefully more. The main characteristics of the planned model case studies are described hereafter, and a first list of required model outputs is proposed.

Expectations from the FASTEX-CSS partners:

$\bullet$
Study carefully the present document before the meeting at Reading.
$\bullet$
Identify the participants to the mesoscale model intercomparison.
$\bullet$
Discuss the validation procedure of the mesoscale runs, including a collaboration CETP/JCMM.
$\bullet$
Discuss in details the delivery of ARPEGE reanalyses to the mesoscale modellers.
$\bullet$
Discuss in details the delivery of mesoscale model outputs to Météo-France.
