Verification of ALADIN against observations in Météo-France : ground parameters

Observation value compared to the nearest grid point over land

SYNOP observations are used except for wind gusts which are verified against SYNOR.

Bias, standard deviation and RMSE for :


2 metres temperature,
2m corrected (altitude difference between the station and the grid point taken into account) temperature,
2m relative humidity,
10m wind force and direction,
mean sea level pressure,
precipitations,
cloud cover.

Contingency tables and indexes (false alarm rates, non detection rates) for :


precipitations (classes : RR<0.1, 0.1<=RR<2, 2<RR<10, 10<RR in mm/6hours) with threshold for no rain is RR<=0.2
cloud cover (classes used : 0-2,3-6,7-8 octas but classes 0-2,3-4,5-6,7-8 probably more appropriate),
wind force and gusts (classe every 20 km/h).

Missing : vectorial statistics for wind, scores for minimum and maximum temperature against SYNOP
Statistics averaged over France in routine

(but model and observation values kept to perform some finer studies)
