Land Surface in-situ data set description page

SYNOPS - Report of surface observation from a fixed land station

Organization of the file:

Each data line contains 47 fields, separated by spaces. The contents and sizes
of the 47 fields that appear in each data record are as follows (Unit for Unit
or Code table (from the Manual oncodes (WMO-No. 306), International codes
volume I.2, part B), Form for FORTRAN Format, Miss for Missing value) :

Data quality flags can take one of the following values :
automatic quality control procedures: 0=good 1=suspect 2=bad 3=not controlled
manually added flags: 5=good 6=suspect 7=bad 8=estimated 9=missing or not
controlled

Quality control procedures are explained in the document GTS_QC_handbook.ps that
can be found on the FASTEX anonymous ftp serveur (cnrm-ftp.cnrm.meteo.fr), in
the directory pub-fastex/doc
