A high resolution snow analysis in Alpine region for the COSMO model
Martijn De Ruyter De Wildt, Daniel Leuenberger
A new high resolution snow analysis using in-situ observations, Meteosat 8 SEVIRI, and NWP model first guess has been developed at MeteoSwiss. Snow water equivalent and fractional snow cover are produced in near real-time on the 2.2km mesh of the Swiss implementation of the COSMO model. The spectral capabilities of Meteosat-8 and its high temporal frequency allows the derivation of a high quality snow map, which is an important information to capture the high spatial variability of the snow cover in the Alpine region.
