Jean-FranÃ§ois Geleyn passed away on 8 January 2015. Jean-FranÃ§ois was suffering with his health recently, but the brutal course of events leaves the ALADIN community suddenly orphaned. Jean-FranÃ§ois's impact on the current generation of NWP specialists is unparalleled, both scientifically and on a human level. Jean-FranÃ§ois first developed the physics of the ECMWF model in the 1970s. Back in MÃ©tÃ©o-France Paris, he became head of the NWP team. Jean-FranÃ§ois Geleyn received on Wednesday 14 September 2011 the EMS Silver Medal for his outstanding contributions to the fostering of cooperation among scientists in European countries. This led to the development of the ALADIN consortium, the start of the merger between the ALADIN and the HIRLAM consortium and a productive scientific interaction within the SRNWP program with the other European consortia. Professor Geleyn On Thursday 17 March, our former Programme Manager, Jean-FranÃ§ois Geleyn became visiting professor at the department of Physics and Astronomy of Ghent university, Belgium. Jean-FranÃ§ois is teaching in the postgraduate programme Weather and Climate Modeling. This programme started in 2007, initiated by Prof. H.
