The meeting was mainly devoted to the preparation of the first annual
report for the EC, discussions about the evolution of the project, slight
modifications ot the scientific program, preparing the next call for
candidacies, ...
Thanks to Alfred Quinet and Josette Vanderborght for
preparing this meeting.
Preparing the first report for the EC
- Period concerned : March 1st, 2000 till February 28th, 2001 (first year).
- Scientific reports have to be prepared by
the 5 ALATNET young researchers.
- Scientific reports from the 5 research
centres : each centre must prepare a scientific report for the main
items of the work program it is responsible for.
- Training courses : a complete report is
already available; a summary will be prepared.
- Financial report to be sent by each
center to the Co-ordinator.
- Statistics of the participation in the project : will be updated at the
end of February (correspondants, please register for January and February 2001).
- All the difficulties encountered for the appointment of ALATNET students
or the use of fundings must be reported to Jean-François Geleyn who
will write a summary for the EC.
Evolution of the project:
- The effort devoted to the ALATNET scientific program is higher than
expected for Météo-France and CHMI, but lower for the other 3
partners. This is mainly due to a misunderstanding of rules. The work must be
reported by centre, including the work of the main team, but also students and
visitors, and for the whole ALATNET program (not only for a team and the
topics it is responsible for).
- Anyway there remains a problem for the Slovenian team, since Mark Zagar
left and with difficulties encountered for post-doc positions (see
"preparing the next call for candidacies).
Scientific program :
The scientific program has been updated, taking into account
missing or misplaced items. The new version will be sent to the EC (with some
explanations of course) with the first report.
Please consult the new version here.
Preparing the next call for candidacies
The 2 post-doc positions in HMS and HMIS will be converted to
longer pre-doc ones (with a ratio of 1.2). This leads to a 20 months stay in
Budapest from one side, and a 16 months stay in Ljubljana with 4 additional
months in Budapest on the other side. CHMI will ask for a prolongation of the
present Post-doc grant.
The schedule is the following :
- end of March : topics (re)defined and
call published
- end of May : deadline for candidacies
- first week of June : choice of candidates
AOB :
- ALATNET website : ALATNET students must fill their personal pages on the
web site themselves.
- A third ALATNET training course, on numerical methods, is likely to be
organized in Slovenia in 2002. HMIS will be in charge of practical problems,
the ALADIN steering group of the scientific program.
- A more close collaboration between the research centres is required. A
first meeting around non-hydrostatism will take place during the next SRNWP
workshop on numerical methods (Bratislava, July 2001). A visit of Jean-Marcel
Piriou (Météo-France) to Ljubljana would be welcome (and both
parties agree).
- The next ALATNET meeting, to prepare the second (mid-term) report, will be
hosted by HMS.
